Africa is building AI in its own languages, and up to $250,000 is now available to support it.
LINGUA Africa has opened applications for African AI projects focused on indigenous languages, datasets, and digital accessibility.
Backed by Microsoft AI for Good Lab, Google.org, the Gates Foundation, and Masakhane, the initiative will fund projects improving AI tools for education, healthcare, agriculture, and financial inclusion.
Selected teams can receive funding, cloud credits, and technical support to scale local-language AI innovation across the continent.
The future of AI in Africa depends on whether African languages are included in the digital ecosystem.
