Ibadan Media Conference Returns September 19th 2026, and the Tech Ecosystem Should Be Paying Attention

Ibadan’s creative and media economy gets a formal gathering point this month. The Ibadan Media Conference (IMC), themed “Outside the Frame,” holds September 19th at 9AM WAT at the RCCG Trinity Assembly, Ring Road, Ibadan.

Ibadan Media Conference is framed as a media event, the lineup and location say something more specific about where Ibadan’s tech and creative infrastructure is heading.

At Techies Node we find IMC interesting for our audience, because the line between “media conference” and “tech ecosystem event” in Ibadan has gotten thinner over the past few years. IMC draws a panel of  speakers spanning creative direction, politics, brand strategy, leadership coaching, photography, and notably, tech ecosystem organizing.

One of the notable guests at IMC 2026 is Danjuma Balogun, Convener of the Ibadan Tech Expo. He sits on the event roster alongside creative directors from Olamidipupo Akinpelu of Olere Photography and Babatunmise Agboola, of Nexora Events, brand leads, and executive coaches. His presence is the clearest signal that IMC isn’t positioning itself purely as a content-and-storytelling gathering; it’s staking a claim in the broader conversation about what infrastructure, media, creative, and tech a city like Ibadan needs to support a functioning digital economy.

Why That Framing Matters

That framing matters. Much of the noise around Nigerian tech still gravitates toward Lagos-centric narratives  funding rounds, hub openings, founder profiles concentrated in one city. Events like IMC, organized and held in Ibadan, are part of a quieter but more durable pattern: local ecosystems building their own convening infrastructure rather than waiting for attention to travel inward from Lagos. A media conference with a tech convener on its panel isn’t a rebrand of tech coverage, it’s an acknowledgment that media production, distribution, and storytelling capacity are themselves infrastructure that Nigerian tech ecosystems need, and often lack, outside a handful of cities.

The rest of the lineup reinforces that reading. Executive advisers, brand founders, and leadership coaches speaking under a media-conference banner suggests IMC is treating “media” broadly, as the operational layer connecting creative output, brand-building, and public communication, rather than a narrow content-creation track. For founders and operators building in Ibadan, that’s a more useful frame than another pitch-and-panel format: it’s a conversation about the scaffolding, visibility, storytelling capacity, creative production pipelines, that determines whether local tech and business activity gets seen at all.
