On Saturday the 12th of October 2024, students from over twenty (20) public and private universities from across the Southwestern region of Nigeria will gather at the Trenchard Hall of the University of Ibadan, for the Ibadan Students Tech Fest ’24 .

The Ibadan Students Tech Fest powered by ATC Africa, a vibrant community of techies, exists based on the belief that Nigeria’s position as Africa’s largest economy and most populous country presents immense potential for technological progress, and it hopes to contribute to addressing the critical challenge of retaining talent within the Oyo ecosystem in particular and the Nigeria ecosystem in general.
According to convener of the event, Tope James Moses: “Building unicorns is good for the tech ecosystem, but how do we make sure that there is a talent pipeline in the tech ecosystem so that we are not just building on a foundation of sand. For me it is important that young people become more aware of their roles in the ecosystem so that they can move from consumers of tech to innovators. Higher institutions are a prime place to start this process.”
The event for the Ibadan Students Tech Fest 24 is “Hacking the Ecosystem: Disruption for Technology Growth.” and will feature youth-centred tech activities such as breakout sessions, a hackathon for new techies, panel sessions from both seasoned tech founders and policymakers in the tech space, product exhibitions etc.
But apart from the main event, IBSTF ’24 will feature two unique events. a football match between the attending schools and a capture the flag for cybersecurity professionals.

Among the speakers expected at the event are Mr. Adebayo Akande Senior Special Assistant on ICT & E-Governance to the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Hon. Seun Fakorede, Executive Assistant to the Governor of Oyo State on Youth and Sports, Engr. Raheemat Adabanija. Director, Management Information Centre of the Oyo State Government, Professor Abel Olorunnisola, Vice Chancellor at Dominion University Ibadan Balogun Danjuma, convener of Ibadan Tech Expo, among a long list of tech founders and tech policy makers.
