Strengthening the cybersecurity community in Oyo state
On Saturday, the 9th of March 2024, over 50 individuals across Oyo State met at the GotoCourse Digital Literacy and InfoTech Centre, Ladoke Akintola Avenue, Bodija Ibadan, for the Oyo Cyber Hangout #OYCHAN1.0. The aim of this event was to bring together newbies, professionals, enthusiasts, and experts in the field of cybersecurity to share knowledge and resources, discuss emerging trends, and foster a sense of community within the cybersecurity industry.

Oyo Cyber Hangout was organized by the Safety Network Society {SafeNet Society}, a a youth-led, non-profit and non-governmental organization, whose vision is to build a cybersecurity and tech community with the aim of teaching, providing, and promoting a hands-on practical training program in every aspect of cybersecurity and tech spaces.

The event featured two talks from the two main event sponsors, Dr Success Ojo, Cybersecurity expert and co-founder of Gotocourse, and Mr. David Archibong, Lead, Diary of Hackers Cybersecurity Community. Both of the speakers talked about the importance of hard work, resilience, love for learning, and building a community as the attributes needed cybersecurity enthusiast looking to break into the industry.

The participants also had the opportunity to network play games and interact as a community.

The CyberSecurity community is free, and anyone who is thinking of pursuing a career in cyber security is welcome. The community also hopes to have monthly meetups, and are also seeking sponsorships and partnerships help fund hands-on equipment, training, business funding and internship for members.
